Student guide

What is AI and Data Science?

AI and Data Science programmes combine computing with statistics and the practice of working with real data.

Compared with a general CSE degree, more of the coursework centres on data, models and evaluation.

Everything below is exploratory. BYC does not state eligibility, fees, cut-offs, salaries or placement outcomes — confirm those with the colleges you are considering.

Common content

  • Programming and databases, plus data cleaning and data handling at scale.
  • Statistics, probability and experiment design.
  • Machine learning methods and how to judge whether a model is actually useful.
  • Visualisation and communicating findings to non-technical readers.

AI Engineer, ML Engineer or Data Analyst?

  • Roles overlap and titles vary between organisations.
  • Analyst work leans toward questions, data and explanation; engineering work leans toward building and running systems.
  • The fastest way to tell what you like is to complete one small end-to-end data project.
